Act quickly if help obtaining personal property exemptions is needed
We know that some taxpayers are experiencing difficulties in obtaining personal property exemption under the new Michigan law that became effective this year and that there are taxpayers who were intended by the legislature to benefit from personal property tax exemption, but to date have not been able to obtain exempt status.
There are efforts underway to amend the new law so that taxpayers who were intended to benefit can obtain exemption even if an assessor or Board of Review has not previously accepted the exemption requested.
If you are experiencing difficulty obtaining exemption, please contact one of Honigman's Property Tax professionals right away. It is possible that your problem can be addressed through a legislative effort.
