Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Honigman LLP announced today that accomplished environmental and energy attorney Van Hilderbrand is joining the firm as a partner in the Real Estate Services Practice Group of Honigman’s Real Estate Department in its Washington, D.C., office—the fourth addition to the office since August. Hilderbrand joins the firm from Miles & Stockbridge, where he was a principal.

Hilderbrand is an experienced environmental and energy attorney who partners with clients across diverse industries to address the critical intersection of business operations, regulatory compliance, and sustainability goals. His background includes reviewing and advising on Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, representations and warranties, and other critical aspects of real estate transactions. He also counsels clients on matters involving renewable energy, climate change, sustainable development, environmental compliance, contamination, and associated disputes and transactions.

“Van can offer our clients not just the extensive subject-matter knowledge that’s essential for complex real estate and corporate work, but also the nuanced understanding of the mechanics and potential risks that can make or break these deals,” said Lowell D. Salesin, Co-Chair of Honigman’s Real Estate Department.

Hilderbrand’s practice also includes assessing and managing environmental risks in business and real estate transactions, conducting environmental due diligence, assisting with permitting issues, helping navigate climate change issues and managing climate-related risks. He delivers tailored solutions that address the unique regulatory and operational challenges that different industries face.

“With his corporate background at General Electric, he can put himself in clients’ shoes and skillfully anticipate their needs surrounding internal business operations and risk management. We’re glad to have him on our team,” said J. Adam Rothstein, Co-Chair of Honigman’s Real Estate Department.

Hilderbrand earned a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Maryland School of Law and a B.S., magna cum laude, from Clemson University.
