Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. distinguishes law firm with 2008 recognition
Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman) was recently recognized as the 2008 Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year by Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LADA) during a ceremony which took place in Southfield, Michigan. I.W. Winsten, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department accepted the award on behalf of Honigman. LADA is Michigan’s largest provider of free civil legal services to low-income residents serving metropolitan Detroit through its offices in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. According to Lynda S. Krupp, Managing Attorney, Private Attorney Involvement Unit, at LADA, "Honigman has for many years been a leader in the pro bono community, successfully handling pro bono litigation, supporting the Detroit Legal Services Clinic, and working with Legal Aid and Defender Association and others to expand pro bono work by law firms and private attorneys generally."
The ceremony which featured guest speaker U.S. District Judge Victoria A. Roberts, recognized contributors with 50 or more pro bono hours per year, significantly beyond the standard 30 hours recommended by the State Bar of Michigan.
