Honigman attorney Richard E. Zuckerman to speak during Continuing Professional Education Week
Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP (Honigman) announced today that Richard E. Zuckerman, a Partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, will participate in two presentations at a five-day event sponsored by Oakland University’s School of Business Administration and Cooley Law School. The event, known as Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Week, runs from June 2 through June 6, 2009 and features educational activities that provide financial professionals the opportunity to hone their skills and earn continuing education credits.
In his first speech on Tuesday, June 2, Zuckerman’s topic is “Implications of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).” Joining him at this session is Lance Siemen, CPA, CFE, CAMS, CFF of Gordon Advisors, PC. The course will delve into key areas of the FCPA, ways to avoid pitfalls of overseas bribery and how to handle responding to potential violations.
On Thursday, June 4, Zuckerman will participate in “If Your Client’s a Criminal – a Tax Panel.” Other members of the panel include Alan M. Gershel, former Chief, Criminal Division United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Michigan and Sandi Carter, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Criminal Division, Detroit IRS Field Office. The session will focus on criminal activity indicators used by the Internal Revenue Service and cues tax practitioners should recognize.
Zuckerman’s law practice focuses on federal and state white collar criminal defense, civil and criminal antitrust and tax litigation, securities fraud defense, and environmental crimes defense. He is a former attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Organized Crime and Racketeering Section where he supervised complex, multi-agency investigations and prepared and tried criminal cases developed from those investigations.
Currently, Zuckerman serves on the State Bar of Michigan Judicial Qualifications Committee and is a member of the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association and The Association of Trial Lawyers in America.
He has been on The Best Lawyers in America list from 2001 to 2009 and as a Michigan Super Lawyer from 2005 to 2008. In addition, he was named by Chambers USA in America’s Leading Lawyers for Business from 2005 to 2008 and as “Top Lawyer in the Fields of Litigation/General Commercial and White Collar Crime & Government Investigations.”
Zuckerman is admitted to the Bar in California, Michigan and Nevada. He is a graduate of the Southwestern University School of Law, cum laude and received his bachelors from the University of Michigan.
