Overview
David Cowen is a former federal prosecutor who focuses his practice on investigations and white collar defense. Prior to joining Honigman, David served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Michigan and the District of New Mexico, where he led high-stakes investigations and prosecutions in cases involving white-collar crime, violent crime, and complex conspiracies. His white-collar expertise includes prosecuting pandemic-related fraud, wire and mail fraud, aggravated identity theft, and environmental crimes, as well as advising on intricate financial and legal matters. He has hands-on experience managing investigations under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering (VICAR).
David has tried dozens of jury trials in federal and state courts and argued hundreds of evidentiary and procedural motions, demonstrating his ability to handle complex litigation. His work includes managing crises such as child abductions, school shootings, and internal investigations, as well as leveraging digital tools and e-discovery in multifaceted cases. Notably, he successfully argued an appeal resulting in a published opinion by the U.S. Court of Appeals.
