Overview
Julie Robertson concentrates her insurance law practice on alternative risk financing. With over 20 years of experience in representing nationwide businesses—both taxable and tax-exempt—in connection with their alternative risk programs, Julie organizes and represents captive insurance companies and risk retention groups, advises on the legal and regulatory aspects of feasibility studies and structural models, formation, and ongoing operations. She also is familiar with areas of healthcare law relevant to regulatory compliance of healthcare captive insurance companies and their owners.
Julie’s extensive experience with captive insurance companies with multiple owners and companies in the leading captive insurance domiciles allows her to advise captive boards on best practices, compliance, corporate governance, and strategic planning. Respected in her field, Julie reviews and interprets insurance policies and analyses questions of coverage.

Representative Matters
- Representing a recently consolidated multistate physician services provider in evaluating multiple insurance vehicles within the group, including risk retention groups and domestic and offshore captives, and implementing consolidation of those vehicles.
- Overseeing the formation and registration of a risk retention group in over 25 states on an expedited basis to replace a commercial front.
- Evaluating options for covering liability associated with sexual abuse and molestation claims and establishing captive insurance companies for that purpose.
- Developing a comprehensive understanding of issues that arise in connection with the provision of coverage for criminal defense expenses for providers who may increasingly face criminal prosecution as a result of changing state laws, developing policy language and obtaining regulatory approval for the provision of that coverage.
