We have decades of experience in state and local election law matters. We advise on compliance with election laws and regularly represent clients in litigation before local and state boards of canvassers up to and including the Michigan Supreme Court. Matters we handle include:
- State and local ballot initiatives: We have extensive experience representing clients in connection with the preparation of legislative and constitutional initiative petitions, challenging such petitions, supporting and defending referendum petitions, and petitions for new political parties
- Recounts: We have represented countless candidates for national, statewide and local offices in recounts, for both major political parties
- Candidates: We regularly advise candidates for elective office with respect to compliance with election laws and litigate on behalf of such clients when necessary
- Recalls: We represent statewide and local elected officials in clarity hearings and litigation both supporting and defending recall attempts
Campaign Finance
We have decades of experience advising individuals, businesses, candidates, political, independent, and ballot question committees with respect to compliance with state campaign finance laws. We have defended numerous campaign finance complaints and litigated with respect to the legal and constitutional limits of campaign finance laws. Examples of campaign finance services we provide include:
- Development of compliance plans to effectively track and disclose political contributions
- Establishment of PACs, ballot question and other political committees
- Advising with respect to political contribution limits, use of corporate facilities for political activities, reporting of in-kind contributions, and proper expenditures
- Advising with respect to proper disclaimers and identifiers
