Benjamin Kirschner Joins Honigman as Leader of Institutional Real Estate Practice Group
Chicago, IL – Honigman LLP announced today that it is expanding its Real Estate Department with the addition of Benjamin Kirschner as partner in Chicago, where he will lead the firm’s Institutional Real Estate Practice Group.
Kirschner joins Honigman from Sidley Austin, where he was a partner in the Real Estate group. He focuses his practice on domestic and international transactional real estate matters, representing a broad range of clients in acquisitions, dispositions, development deals, leasing, joint ventures, and financings, with a concentration on healthcare and industrial transactions.
"Today is an exciting day for Honigman as we welcome Ben to the firm as leader of our Institutional Real Estate Practice Group," said J. Adam Rothstein, co-chair of Honigman’s Real Estate Department. “Ben’s strong track record advising clients on a number of high-profile transactions, as well as his leadership skills and forward-thinking approach to this fast-evolving sector, will greatly enhance the reputation of our already robust Real Estate Department.”
Kirschner also counsels clients on the real estate aspects of large corporate transactions. Representative matters include his work on behalf of Novant Health, Inc. in its purchase of three hospitals in South Carolina for approximately $2.4 billion; Frontida Biopharma in its sale and leaseback of two life sciences industrial properties; and Steward Health Care System in its $1.1 billion acquisition of five hospitals and related operations in Florida’s Miami-Dade and Southern Broward counties.
Kirschner earned a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 2011 and a M.A. in Real Estate in 2007 and a B.S. in Finance in 2006 from the University of Illinois-Chicago. Prior to his tenure with Sidley, Kirschner was a partner at McDermott Will & Emery. Beyond his active legal practice, Ben has represented clients, pro bono, in all types of real estate matters, obtaining affordable financing, obtaining U-visas, and negotiating the repayment of Social Security overpayments.
