The 2022 WTR 1000 Honigman description for Michigan is as follows:
Honigman’s WTR 1000 representatives make the firm a compelling choice in Michigan, as illustrated by the quality of feedback that each receives. Of trademark and copyright group leader Julie Kretzschmer Reitz, one source comments: “I don’t know where to begin when speaking about Julie. She thinks very commercially and practically, so it’s never a case of ‘No, you can’t do that’; but instead ‘Here’s how you can do that safely.’ When things are urgent, she turns them round rapidly; communications on non-urgent matters are also responded to promptly, so you’re never left waiting. Throughout the pandemic, she has kept everything running so smoothly with our large portfolio – there was never a pause in anything, despite all that’s been going on in the world. She knows so much about trademark law globally and is a great negotiator in conflict situations, which has saved us a lot of time and money – she works tirelessly to resolve disputes so we don’t have to go to court and litigate. Lastly, she trains her team extremely well.” Another source adds: “She makes trademark processes seamless and understands the fast pace of business, delivering what’s needed quickly. She excels at keeping us informed and clued up on all our options.” Anessa Owen Kramer is another trusted steward of trademark portfolios and a vital guide on brand protection, licensing and strategy, who “navigates difficult issues with skill and grace. She is ultra-responsive and a superb relationship manager who is always clear on the staffing of matters and pricing. She understands the commercial impact of her advice and is a great business partner.” Like Reitz, she has “assembled an excellent team of lawyers and paralegals who are enjoyable to partner with.” Angela Sujek “pitches her advice at just the right level on matters large and small. She has exceptionally sound judgement in dispute negotiations.” The top litigator on deck, Leigh Taggart turns his “highly analytical mind” to myriad IP and general business matters: “He is terrific in all respects – witness preparation, brief writing, cross-examinations etc; you can be confident he is the best-prepared person in the courtroom. He seeks guidance from others at Honigman as appropriate and succinctly summarises advice to support his clients’ decision making.” The firm has enjoyed notable growth in the past two years and expanded by opening a Washington DC office in 2020. In summary, it continues to thrive thanks to the quality of its close-knit team and the value it offers to rightsholders.
The annual WTR 1000 guide also adds the following comments about DC Partner, Rachel Hofstatter: “Rachel has great expertise on all matters relating to trademarks. She responds quickly, gets excellent results, knows her clients’ needs and suggests creative ways to attain key objectives.”
